Western Digital unveils the latest MyBook Essential, MyPassport Essential HDDs

Before Ondoy ravaged the Philippines, Western Digital unveiled the latest iteration of their MyBook Essential and MyPassport Essential external hard drives.

Aside from being smaller, the new MyBook Essential now boasts of a front illuminated segmented gauge as opposed to the solid one of the past as well as a protection status indicator and a redesigned ventilation system. The new MyPassport Essential is also a lot sleeker and is now 20% smaller than previous models. Both the MyBook Essential and MyPassport Essential also feature the all-new WD SmartWare backup software.

Price starts at P4,900 (500GB Windows) for the MyBook Essential and P4,600 (320GB) for the MyPassport Essential. Full press release after the break.

I wouldn’t exactly buy this for myself, but it’s a nice gift idea for your young nephews/nieces or even your girlfriend this coming Christmas.
